Botanical Garden

Our Kimono de Jack group visited a botanical garden last month! We were on the hunt for wisteria; unfortunately heavy rains the week before blew away all of the blossoms! However, the rest of the garden still had some blooms, so we were still able to enjoy some flowers. 🙂

Strathmore Kimono Exhibition

Members of Kimono de Jack: Greater Washington DC visited the Strathmore’s kimono exhibit, “Timeless Transformations: Kimonos, Prints & Textiles”. The exhibition is part of the Cherry Blossom Festival of Washington, DC. Unfortunately, professional cameras were not allowed, so I couldn’t use my camera, but we made do with our cellphones! 🙂

New York Fashion Week 2016

Me and several other members of KDJ: Greater Washington DC went to the Hiromi Asai & Kimono Artisan Kyoto kimono fashion show at New York Fashion Week. This was the first time a kimono show has happened at NYFW, and also the very first Kickstarter-funded show as well. It was an amazing experience! I am…

Wedding Houmongi

I attended a friend’s wedding in kimono! This is only the second time I have worn this kimono, but it is one of my favorites. I refer to it as my “Rainbow Cottage” houmongi. 😉

Happy New Year!

Happy 2016! I recently bought my very first synthetic kimono, and I just had to try it out! It’s hard to believe that it’s taken me around 6 years of wearing kimono to actually get one, but what can I say? Taisho silk calls to me lol. What finally made me break my silk obsession?…

Matoi Otoko Poi Style

July 4th is Independence Day in the U.S., so I wore my matoi 纏 (Edo-period firemen’s flag) motif kimono to celebrate! It’s one of my favorite motifs, and super-fascinating to learn about. Each district had their own flag; one day I hope to be able to identify which ones the two matoi on my kimono…

Go Hime 姫の世界へ Magazine

The day is finally here!!! After 2 years of hard work and coordination by a wonderful team of people, the first volume of Go Hime 姫の世界へ is now live!

Sushi Restaurant Meetup

It’s always great to make new kimono friends! I met up with a bunch of lovely fellow kimono lovers at a sushi restaurant last week. They had just finished up filming a collaborative presentation on the life cycle of silkworms as they relate to the production of kimono. You can read about the artist’s fascinating…

Old Schoolin’ It

I was inspired by a kimono friend who wore an “East Meets West” outfit with a collared shirt under kimono. You can sometimes see old photos of men who wore such a style during the later part of the Meiji era. It looked so cool, that I had to try it myself!

Goodbye, Hello.

A belated goodbye to 2013 and a hello to 2014! I received this kimono and obi as a birthday present from my friend Choutama no Kimono ❤ I asked for roses, and she sent me the most beautiful outfit!

Batman Kitsuke

This all started because McDonald’s recently had a Happy Meal toy which was a Batman mask, and I am a child on the inside…:P
